THE
ENGLISH LANGUAGE (SUPERHERO), DAILY WEEKLY!
Since March of 1998,
after a year-long stint in the weekly Montreal Mirror, Angloman
found a new home in the Sunday Magazine section of the Montreal
Gazette, Quebec's only major English language daily. (Slogan:
"The English Language. Daily.") The Sunday Gazette's
readership is estimated to be in excess of 300,000 copies, giving
Angloman -- at least in theory -- a wider reader base than such
well-known comic book characters as Superman and Spider-Man.
The Angloman comic strip, which appears once a week, is published
in a unique oversize format closer to the size of a Sunday colour
comic strip than a regular three-panel daily. Click here

ON
THE BESTSELLER LIST!
The first Angloman
book stayed on the Montreal Gazette bestseller list for an unprecedented
22 weeks and generated enthusiastic reviews and media coverage
in both official languages from coast-to-coast. It is currently
in its third printing. Angloman 2 held its own for almost
as long, approximately 19 weeks, and sold out of its first printing
in less than two weeks.
Here is a sample of what the critics have had to saying about
Angloman and Angloman 2.
"Takes aim at Canada's political wrangles with wicked satire.
By fusing the traditions of the superhero with political satire,
(Shainblum and Morrissette) have created an entirely new branch
of the comic family tree."
The Globe and Mail
"The drawings by Gabriel Morrissette are bold and broad,
exhibiting the violent wham of comics. The text by Mark Shainblum
begins with the familiar situations of comic-book types, but the
punch-lines are closer to a Freudian dissection of familiar headlines.
As a look at who we are collectively, Angloman seems oh-so-accurate."
The Montreal Gazette
"As spoofs go, this one is hilarious without being vicious.
It all works magnificently. Only in Canada."
NOW (Toronto)
"Angloman is the ideal antidote for anybody who, on either
side of the issue, has had it up to here with the constitutional
crisis... ... Gabriel Morrissette's artwork approaches (if it
doesn't attain) perfection."
La Presse (Montreal)
"Knocks the stuffing out of Canadian blowhards, egotists
and malcontents of every political stripe... Angloman's humour
has an engagingly playful edge, complemented by artwork that's
dynamic, clearly drawn and accessible..."
