Sequel Series

The so-called black and white comics "explosion" of 1986-87 was actually a disaster for most small-press comic book publishers. It enriched the coffers of a few sleaze merchants, but it destroyed publishers who were unable or unwilling to play the false-collectibles game. Think of it as an echo of the junk bonds phenomenon that decimated Wall Street at roughly the same time, or a teeny-tiny H/O scale model of the dot-com madness that would engulf the Internet world a decade later. Whatever you call it, it brought the Matrix Graphic Series experiment to a screeching halt, and Northguard went homeless for three years. After an abortive merger with a major Montreal magazine publisher, Matrix finally reached an agreement with Michigan-based Caliber Press to publish the last three issues of the series. Caliber also published a trade paperback graphic novel reprinting the first five Matrix issues under one cover.
