So
who is Mark Shainblum and why should you care?
In
no particular order:
I'm
an author, editor, journalist and comic book creator living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada,
one of the
world's seriously great cities.
I
am happily married to Andrea Lobel, the woman of my dreams!

I
am a writer, editor and communications consultant with many
years of experience in comic books, science fiction, journalism,
marketing and publishing. I am also currently working as a Communications Officer at McGill University.
My science fiction short story "The Art of Solitude®"
(and yes, the ® is part of the title!) was published in the Fall 2006 issue of On Spec, the long-running
"Canadian Magazine of the Fantastic". On Spec is arguably the best speculative fiction digest being published anywhere, so I'm very proud of this. • Subscribe to On Spec
I'm currently
collaborating with PEI comic artist Jeff Alward
on the weekly webcomic The Haunting of MacGrath, a Sherlockian-style mystery (with just a hint of the supernatural) set in Victorian Montreal.
My
science fiction novella "Endogamy Blues" appeared in the anthology Island
Dreams: Montreal Writers of the Fantastic
edited by Claude Lalumiere (Véhicule Press, 2003). Paul Di
Filippo of Asimov's Science
Fiction said "Mark Shainblum does military SF intelligently
and gracefully," and called Island
Dreams "One of the
best original anthologies of the year." • Order

My
short story "The
Break Inspector" was published in the online science fiction magazine Would
That It Were, now sadly defunct. The story originally began life as an entry in the international Mark
Twain Writing Competition, where it placed in the top ten.
(A photo
of the author
accepting his award while desperately trying not to look like a goober.)
I
wrote and co-created the absolutely hilarious Angloman
book and comic strip series.
With
John Dupuis, I'm co-editor of the award-winning 1998 science fiction
anthology Arrowdreams: An
Anthology of Alternate Canadas.

Now
online, my prose superhero story "Playing
Solitaire",
originally published in the anthology Playing
Solitaire and Other Stories
(Cyber Age Adventures Press, 2001).
I
co-created the alternative comic book superheroes Northguard
and Fleur-de-Lys,
who eventually ended up on a series of Canadian postage stamps. • Order

I'm
the former publisher of Matrix
Comics.
I'm
rich and chocolaty with only half
the calories.
I
have shamelessly ridden the coattails of some extremely talented
people, including comic artists Gabriel
Morrissette, Sandy
Carruthers, Bernie Mireault
and Jill
Thompson,
and my Arrowdreams co-editor John Dupuis.
